18th Century 2-Handled Porringer, Signed and Dated 1777 Start Price USD 185.00 Current Price USD 185.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Thursday, October 09, 2008 End Time Thursday, October 16, 2008 Location Washington, District Of Columbia See more about '18th Century 2-Handled Porringer, Signed and Dated 1777' Description For sale in this auction is a very rare and finely kept pewter porringer, measuring 4 inches in diameter, 8 inches across the handle, by 1-1/4 inches deep, and weighing about half a pound.  The bottom of the bowl is unmarked, but the handles are both marked with the maker's hallmark which includes the initials A and I on either side of the traditional angel of quality and 1777 above the angel (photos7-9).  The inside center of the bowl is marked with a beautiful rose in a 2-inch beaded circle (photo 6).  Both sides of the bowl bear the linen marks (photos 4&5) where the handles were attached in the shop of "A.I." back in 1777.  This porringer is in excellent condition with wear only typical of household use for 200 years or more.  The patina is a very smooth and uniform flannel gray.  This is a very rare dated pewter antique, and the opening bid is well below its value.  Thank you for visiting my auctions, and good luck to you in all your bidding.  bdr Place a Bid!
