Silk Suspension Bronze Click on the thumbnails to view enlargements Rare 18th Century gilt bronze French clock with fine French two train silk suspension movement and beautiful sounding fine French silver bell, strikes on the hour and half hour. Runs great, keeps perfect time. The movement has just been cleaned by a Master clockmaker. Roman numeral chapters and minute markers surround the face which display classically beautiful delicate ornate and finely crafted French hour and minute hands. This piece displays unusually fine and artistic chasing in its case (see photos)which includes minutely detailed crowning noble horse mounted knight in all his grand suit of armor, above sword, helmet and learned book, representing the knightly virtues of bravery, wisdom and gallantry. The case also includes intricate roses and garlands. This bronze clock stands on the very rare matching carved gilt wood stand with salmon colored silk top base - all original. Circa 1780s.
