Description
I am offering an antique French Bisque Louis XV 3-door walnut armoire, matching king size bed and two walnut antique end tables. I purchased two antique full size beds and had them merged to create a king size bed. This set was purchased from Lucky's Antiques in Miami, FL in 1994 and I have been the sole owner since. Lucky's was a very expensive and upscale antique store in Miami. This item is an "antique reproduction" which means it is a reproduction that is over 100 years old. I still have the receipt for these items which will be included in the auction: $5,000 for two full size beds and $2,995 for the armoire for a total of $8,000. I downsized several years ago and no longer have room for these items and it does not fit the contemporary styling of my current home. They have been stored in my garage and I do not anticipate having the space for them in the future. I will be unable to reassemble the armoire to take photos as it is a two man operation. I have included a photo that shows it at an angle in my old home. I will accommodate (and encourage!!) any potential bidders to preview these items before bidding. I am conveniently located in Peccole Ranch (near Sahara Ave and Ft. Apache) in the western part of Las Vegas (very easy to find from the 215 or 95). The armoire has a cutout for a TV, but the back panels can be replaced if you don't need or want this feature. There are some minor nicks in both the bed and armoire, but again, these are repairable. These items are definitely worth having restored to their former glory. One of the mirrors broke in shipping and it was replaced (the company that made the replacement did an outstanding job and looks indistingishable from the other two mirrors), but it did devalue the piece by $300 according to an appraiser. I had the armoire appraised and will include his remarks below (the fair market value was for the armoire alone...and did not include the bed). I have factored in the loss-of-value for both the mirror and the minor nicks. Two walnut antique side tables will be included in this auction. Please e-mail with any questions. I will cooperate with the shipping process if you make the arrangements including scheduling and pick-up. AC Delivers (www.acdelivers.com) has quoted me $685 for delivery to New England...anywhere else will cost less so that is the most it will cost for delivery. Please e-mail me for payment method. From a smoke and pet free home!! No musty antique odors! This comes from a meticulously clean home! NOTE: If you are the winning bidder of this item, please e-mail me for payment instructions. Appraised By: Jeffrey Motsinger Appraiser Comments: Devaluation due to repairs is called loss-of-value (LOV). Loss of value is not usually determined until after the repairs are finished. Appearance before is compared to appearance afterwards. In this case I'll assume the appearance will be equal to that before the damage occurred. The circumstance to be considered is that the mirrored glass will be new and not 19th century. The item is in the style of Louis XV but not from the original period. Appearance and functionality are the prime considerations in valuating antique furniture, however, originality is also a major factor--but not so much on reproduction furniture as on period items. New glass is functionally superior to old glass. If the repairs are, indeed, undetectable, then the loss of value just due to new glass is not great, about $300--mostly from the psychological factor of knowing the piece has been rebuilt and this has to be disclosed when selling. Potential buyers will use the fact as a bargaining chip. An unscrupulous seller would likely try to hide the fact the item has been repaired. I would caution the owner to have an appraisal done after the repairs are finished--I'm afraid only a hands-on inspection can reveal if the repairs were properly done and will stand the test of time--doors, especially, are highly stressed parts and any weakness will manifest itself in short order. I have built reproduction furniture from scratch and repaired many examples also--I can tell you that determining the quality of repairs is not easy and cannot be done from photos. I wouldn't 'sign off' of the repairs until they have been inspected by an outside party. The International Society of Appraisers (ISA) can help you locate an appraiser near you. * Current Fair Market Value: $3,000.00 ** Replacement Cost: $3,000.00 On Nov-10-08 at 10:50:27 PST, seller added the following information: Click to see supersized image Click to see supersized image Click to see supersized image On Dec-02-08 at 11:32:44 PST, seller added the following information: Click to view supersize image Click to view supersize image
