Description
Early 19th C Antique French Sterling Silver Flatware Set 1835 Vieillard 24pcSilver:Antique:Sterling:Flatware An exceptional, early 19th century, French silver flatware set for 12 (24 pieces), decorated with raised shells and acanthus leaves. Period silver services this old and of this quality are hard to find, after generations of families split up the old estates. Each of the 12 spoons and 12 forks bears the Vieillard 1 mark and the Paris guarantee mark, both used 1819 - 1838, guarantee for .950 silver, which is purer than sterling (.925); plus the maker's mark for Francois-Gaston LABADY, who commenced trading at 7 cour Lamoignon, Paris, in 1835. With these dates, we can be assured that the set was created between 1835 and 1838, during the reign of the last king of France, Louis Philippe. Discreet monograms on the underside, possibly AC or AG. Total silver weight 1431 grams (1. 43 kilo, 46.01 ozt.) Please see the large images for more details. A gorgeous set of early silver, ready for your table! Very good condition. Other than minor signs of use, the only issue is that one fork has a small loss at the tip of one of its tines, as shown in the images. (This could be replaced by an extra from our flatware set by JAMET.) To add to this service, see our very compatible silver flatware set of grands couverts by Jamet in the large dinner size, sold separately.
