The carved walnut pieces are warm and rich in color. The incredible patience and attention to detail given to each piece of this set can only be from the finest craftsmen of those days. The kind of craftsmanship that probably only royalty could afford back in the 1850's -1890's. It is solid and sturdy. I got this a couple years ago and according to the place I got it from, it came from Austria. It really has great European flair.   Photos can not give this set the attention it deserves.   Measurements (approximate) Bed 66 ¾” tall (headboard) 47” tall (footboard) 59” wide overall 84” long overall mattress area approximately 50” x 74 ½”   Armoire 105” tall 57” wide 23 ¾” deep   Nightstand/Washstand 35” tall 19” wide 15 ½” deep   Note that the bed is not a standard size according to today’s modern sizes because it is antique and it is European. You will either have to have a mattress custom made for this beauty or you can make a platform to sit on the frame on which a mattress will sit. If you have seen other antique beds in which the mattress sits high, this is what they have done to accommodate a modern mattress.   Yes, as expected with age, there are some minor things no longer perfect with the set, but it is over 100 years old and the pieces are rock solid. The stone top to the nightstand/washstand is broken and was poorly glued. There is a small piece of trim missing on the bed near the foot by the headboard on the right side, if you are looking at it from the foot of the bed. The key that is in the door of the armoire does not turn the lock to the locked position, I don't know if it is broken or if it is the wrong key.
