A complete, matched set of cork cutters in excellent condition. More than a hundred years ago, each drug store made most of it's own remedies. These were mixed or compounded, and bottled, often in a custom bottle with the name of the pharmacy or drug store. Bottles were purchased from glass suppliers, and each was sealed with a cork. The cork came in pre-sized corks, or the druggist cut the needed corks from a block. Most druggists only had a few cork cutters, seldom is a complete matched set found. This set is in excellent condtion and consists of 15 pieces. Cork cutters in this set go from size 1 to size 14, and there is the matching ram for the set to allow removal of the cork after cutting. These are made of brass, and often were damaged by dropping. This set has not been dropped, and each cutter is a circular cutting tool. The set has a considerable brass patina, but could be cleaned as desired by the new owner. Each of the 14 cutters is numbered, as can be seen at their tops in the above photos. The entire set is made to nest with each cutter inside the next larger. (If no cutter is bent). I have collected antique pharmacy tools for more than 40 years, and this has been one of the most prized tools in my collection. Terms of Sale Cash, certified check, Paypal accepted.
