View our other items for sale  Antique Very Large Cast Iron Mortar Apothecary, Mining.  Hello; and welcome to my auction for a very large, very rare, antique apothecary cast-iron mortar #8 (unfortunately no pestle) . This excellent piece of americana history is in a wonderful, as found condition,  no cracks, damage or repairs, there is some rough casting on it as can be seen in the pictures below. I have only cleaned the dust off the outside with mild soap and water, and given it a light coat of vegetable oil, there is some rust and a white deposit of some sort on the inside, would clean up if you so choose. This large mortar  stands 7" tall, it is 8" wide at the top (hence the number 8 on the bottom) and  weighs of over 14 pounds.  A beautiful piece of medical history, or one this size might also have been used in the mining industry for grinding ore, either way it will surely be the focal point of any collection or room.
