Description
The former owner's remember this in their family back to the great grandmother and they are in their seventies. The mortar looks like it was made from one piece of wood and the pestle might be as well. I can't be sure but some of the cracks go from the handle into the pestle making me think it's all one piece. The mortar is about 7 & 1/2" tall by 5" in diameter across the widest part of the bottom. Both pieces have a lot of splits in the wood which I think gives it so much character. You can see the biggest crack goes right down the side of the mortar but is maybe 1" from the center of the grinding bowl. Even with the cracks it is solid as can be-not falling apart and it has a great old patina to the very hard wood. A nice old antique.Buyer pays shipping and suggested insurance for 4 pounds from New York zip 12569. Thank you.
