REDUCED 30 % HISTORY: My husband and I purchased this firescreen at Sloan’s Auctioneers and Appraisers, DC, lot 885, 10/29/1999. Catalogue illustration p. 95. Description: The auction catalogue description is available and reads: “LOUIS XVI IVORY PAINTED RECTANGULAR TAPESTRY FIRESCREEN. Circa 1775. The polychrome oval tapestry panel depicting a young girl gathering flowers within a beribboned floral garland, the molded frame surmounted by a floral crest, the upper corners carved with paterae, the channeled and downswept end supports with stylized scroll feet.” An independent October 2007 appraisal for replacement value reads: “Rectangular polychrome fire screen frame with oval tapestry center. Molded frame surmounted by a floral crest, upper corners carved with paterae; end supports channeled, down swept and mounted on scroll feet. Tapestry panel depicts a young girl gathering flowers within a ribbon and floral garland; fabric may be an old replacement. Condition: frame: very good; tapestry: shows some wear.” H 38.5” x W 24.5” x D 16”. Weight: 15 lbs.
