Description
BRUNSON INSTRUMENT CO. TRIVET, SPINDLE COLLIMATING MIRROR, AND 31/2"-8 MOUNTING RING These items are for a Brunson transit / theodolite in particular or any other compatible instrument. Available for bid are a Brunson: Trivet Collimating mirror with stem and a Loose 3 ½ -8 brass mounting ring. The following information is from Brunson and describes their new items in particular. They also describe these old items in general. The new item’s descriptions are meant only to give the bidder a general idea of the item. BRUNSON TRIVET Brunson’s new model 198-1 The old trivet grey paint is worn, the paint surface is chipped in places and it has an abraded region on the flange where the original owner removed an ID. This region and the paint defects are cosmetic and do not compromise functionality. Brunson 198-1 trivet The 198-1 trivet provides a convenient means of setting up instruments on surface plates, machine tables, the floor, or any place where the line of sight is close to the supporting surface. The mounting ring has a standard 3½" x 8 external thread for instrument mounting as well as a 2.825" x 20 internal thread, which is the same as on the intermediate tubes of our heavy duty stands. A number of Brunson and other vendor products fit on the 198-1, however, simple reasonable care must be taken to prevent the assembly from becoming top heavy. Instrument mount height: 5" (12.7 cm)Finish: Machine gray Body material: Cast ironApproximate weight: Trivet, 7 lbs, shipping, 9 COLLIMATING MIRROR Brunson’s new model 284-M The old mirror is worn, the case is green and it has a ½” dia. By 2 ½” shaft on the back. It is in fair to good condition. 284-M Spindle Mirror Target True rotational centerlines may be referenced quickly and accurately with the model 284‑M spindle mirror. It is designed to attach magnetically to the end of a shaft or spindle. The mirror has both a 100% reflecting surface and a multiple filar bi‑filar target printed on the surface. Translation adjustments (four laterally opposing screws) are provided to set the target concentric to the center of rotation, while angular adjustments (three spring-loaded screws at 120°) set the mirror precisely perpendicular to the shaft's rotational centerline. By setting an optical instrument to the mirror, precise extension of the shaft rotational axis is ensured. The 284-M mirror provides a reference LOS (line of sight) on rotational axes such as drive lines, gearbox output shafts, ship's propeller shafts, generator centerlines, etc. Once an instrument is aligned with the rotational axes, various tasks may be performed to relate or evaluate the position of other items (such as machine ways, bearing journals, bores, etc.) to the original rotational axis. Mirror: Coated glass mirror 1½" (38.1mm) dia. with multiple filar/bi‑filar target Finish: Black anodize Case: Hardwood case Approx. weight: Mirror, 6 lbs (2.7kg); mirror and case, 10 lbs (4.5kg); shipping, 11 lbs (5kg) Mounting surface: minimum of 5" (127mm) dia. required Mount: Mirror mounting plate has four fine‑threaded displacement screw knobs, two opposing in each direction, with a range of approximately 3/8" (9.5mm). Angular motion is controlled by three adjusting screws 120 degrees apart.
