Below this is the basin supported by the three classical serpents. This can easily be hooked up as a fountain again by getting a small electric pump and feeding water into the mouth via the back, the piece can then be supported or moulded into a wall. In its full working glory its a unique and impressive piece and would make any courtyard or garden come alive, both aesthetically and aurally with the beautiful sound of trickling water soundtracking a balmy summer evening. The level of sculpture is amazing with all of the details on every surface of the fountain - of course the fantastic lions head and the cherubs with amazingly intricate facial features and garlands. It probably originally featured as a drinking fountain in a town square and this can also be its function again, or it can be used just as a decorative piece. We were lucky enough to buy this in Bourg Madam in South of France close to the Spanish border whilst on a buying trip in this beautiful region. Being bronze this will last forever without rusting and hence is a great investment as it will always appreciate in value. Aside from being aesthetically pleasing and nice to look at they can also become heirlooms. Bronze is any of several alloys consisting mainly of copper and tin.
