Start Price USD 750.00 Current Price USD 750.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Thursday, October 09, 2008 End Time Saturday, November 08, 2008 Location Orlando, Florida See more about 'Museum Quality 18th Century Pewter Baptismal Bowl 1767' Description Description: This auction is for a Large Antique Pewter Baptismal Bowl.  We are not sure the exact country of manufacture, but the bowl was apparently used in Germany, so we are assuming the bowl is continental pewter, probably German or Austrian.  The bowl is dated 1767--the date it was actually made could be earlier.  This is a very large bowl, measuring 13" in diameter, and nearly 4" high.  Weight is 4 Lbs.   The bowl is inscribed with the German translation of Biblical verse Luke 18:16, "lasset die Kindlein zu mir kommen" or "Suffer little children to come unto me".  It is also inscribed on the side as follows              "Der Kirche Zv              St Margarethen              Gelchencket von Barbara Margaretha              Ellin Gern              17 Ao Di 67"   The bowl has 3 faint touchmarks.  I have pictured them as best I can--you can partially make them out.  If any pewter collector's out there have any additional information on this bowl please feel free to contact me and I'll update the auction!     Condition: The bowl is in remarkable condition for its age.  Absolutely no splits, damage or corrosion.  No restoration. Light denting and scratching throughout, but no major dents.  Not out of round at all!    Please see pictures below and feel free to ask questions.
