Description
This is an amazing find. It is a set of six sterling chocolate spoons in the rare, deluxe "Hizen" pattern, which was patented by Gorham circa 1880. The spoons are in the Aesthetic / Japanese style, and feature a carp swimming in turbulent water. The bowls are formed like scallop shells. Each spoon measures 4-5/16" long and weighs .45 troy ounces. They are in excellent condition, and retain varying amounts of their original gold wash in their bowls. They have never been engraved. They are marked on the reverse, "Sterling" and "Lion-Anchor-G". "Hizen" is one of the most elusive of Gorham's patterns, and finding a set of six in unmonogrammed condition is exceedingly rare. Any black spots are merely reflections. They are a great set! Please see my other auctions for more pieces in this pattern.
