The collection includes surgical instruments and books related to medicine and dentistry, items that are tooth related from ivory, scrimshaw and skulls to raw tusks, carvings and taxidermy - a multitude of treasures, rarities and the bizarre. This item is two volumes (Vol. I and Vol. II) of The Dental Cosmos for 1859 and 1860. This lot consists of the first two volumes of the most important journal in dental history, containing plates and illustrations from some of the most important dental researchers of its time. “A Montly Record of Dental Science; Devoted to the Interests of the Profession.” Edited by J. D. White, M.D., D.D.S., J.H. McQuillen, D.D.S., Geo. J. Ziegler, M.D. Published in Philadelphia by Jones & White, Publishers, 528 Arch Street. Leather bound, near mint. Title page of each volume is marred by erasure mark. White, Talbot, Taft, Richardson, Wescott, Flagg are some of the great names among the contributors to these volumes. These two volumes are very rarely offered. Neither of these volumes is currently available through any dealers. Each measures 8 ¾” by 5 ¾” by 2 ¼”; 680 and 696 pages. We try to show good pictures at different angles with an accurate description. We try to accurately describe any faults but do not always go into depth about normal wear and tear that generally would be expected with items of this age.
